The Blood of Dawnwalker Mods: What Is Worth Installing

Updated 2026-10-12

The Blood of Dawnwalker supports mods on PC, and the scene arrived fast: Nexus Mods listed over 400 mods within the game's first two weeks, and 585 by October 2026. The game shipped without Denuvo and runs on Unreal Engine 5.5.4, so authors had the usual Unreal tooling to work with. The library has settled into the familiar shape for a big open-world RPG: interface and quality-of-life first, performance and difficulty tuning second, and almost no new content at all. Most mods are a plain file drop into a single folder; only the script-based ones need a loader.

How many Dawnwalker mods are there?

585 mods inside six weeks is a lot of output, but the totals hide where the work went. Very little of it is new content. Most of it is the community sanding down the parts of the game that get in the way.

Translation is where the scene is quietly busiest after the tweak categories. Alongside 47 English-language mods there are five Ukrainian, two Simplified Chinese, and single Arabic, Indonesian, Japanese, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Turkish and Vietnamese entries.

The most downloaded Dawnwalker mods

Download counts move fast, so read this as a starting point rather than a fixed ranking. Figures are taken from Nexus Mods in October 2026.

ModDownloadsWhat it does
Better Story Timer279.5kChanges the number of days in the main quest and the segments in a day, or removes the time cost for traits, treasures and quests.
Optimized Tweaks TBOD87.4kCPU and GPU optimisation aimed at stutter, latency and frametimes, without cutting visual quality.
UE4SS for Dawnwalker82.5kA ready-to-install build of the UE4SS script loader with game-specific signatures and a custom DLL.
Uncapped Cutscenes and Menu FPS56.3kUnlocks framerate in menus and cutscenes, with optional limits and vignette removal. Needs UE4SS.
Better Carry Weight43.7kDoubles carry weight or multiplies it by ten. Weight traits keep working.
Faster Leveling and More Traits36.4kSpeeds up levelling and grants more trait points.
Better Shadowstep34.2kShadowstep upgrades go higher and further for less, unlock earlier, and cost no time.
Mod Setting Menu31.3kA shared in-game settings menu for Dawnwalker mods, in all 15 supported languages. Needs UE4SS.
UE4SS for BoD25.1kA zero-maintenance UE4SS build that caches addresses instead of rescanning after every game update.
UE4SS Cheat Menu24.4kA script menu with skill points, respecs and combat toggles, shipped with a working loader build.
Fast Travel Anywhere22.3kFast travel to unlocked shrines straight from the world map, with no shrine interaction.
PlayStation DualSense Button Prompts19.7kSwaps the Xbox glyphs on screen for the game's built-in DualSense icons.
Auto Health Regen17.6kEditable percentage-based HP regeneration for both human and vampire forms. Needs UE4SS.
Item Compare17.2kCompares inventory gear against what you have equipped, at shrines and vendors too.
Auto Gathering17kAutomatically gathers nearby plants.
Increased Loot16kLoot multipliers at 2x, 5x or 10x, with an option that multiplies equipment as well.
Focus Tweaks15.8kWidens focus detection and smell ranges, and brightens targets in post-processing.
Easier Parry14.2kA forgiving 2x or 50x parry window with native perfect-parry reactions. No loader required.

Four of the top twenty entries are competing builds of the same tool, UE4SS, which says more about the loader than about the mods. Dawnwalker ships with settings that crash the stock build, so authors ship pre-configured copies instead. A single author, Caites, holds five of the top twenty places, including the number one spot.

Which mods are worth installing

Interface and navigation

  • Atlas of Dawn adds region borders and level ranges to the world map, plus a rotating minimap in the style of The Witcher 3 with live icons, edge markers for tracked quests, distances and the current region. There is an option to drop the compass entirely.
  • TrailKeeper shades the ground you have already covered, so what stays clear is what you have not searched yet - and that is where the loot you have not found still is.
  • Vital Eye moves stamina and health into a small eye just above the middle of the screen, because in a fight you watch the centre of the screen rather than the bottom-left corner.

Combat and difficulty

  • Easier Parry widens the parry window from 2x to 50x, and it is one of the few combat mods that needs no loader at all.
  • Better Shadowstep rebuilds the Shadow Dweller upgrades into higher, longer and cheaper versions that unlock earlier and cost no time or mutations.
  • Better Legendary Swords Overhaul rewrites the stats on the game's 12 legendary swords, with damage options from 5% up to 100% and reworked passives. The same author splits armour and jewellery out into their own overhauls.
  • The True Silver Blade rebuilds the Imbued Sword of Saint Mihai into a genuine legendary weapon instead of a sidegrade.
  • Blood Surge AOE and Focus Changes doubles the explosion size of each Blood Surge level and can reduce the focus cost.
  • Infamy Tweaks slows infamy growth and lets you disable individual edicts such as soldier awareness, outposts and the city blockade.
  • No Boss Blood Requirement removes the need to collect a boss's blood before unlocking their skill.

Progression and convenience

  • Better Carry Weight, Faster Leveling and More Traits, Increased Loot and Auto Gathering do what their names promise, with little left to explain.
  • Fast Travel Anywhere removes the shrine step from fast travel.
  • Save Anywhere AnyTime binds quicksaving to a single hotkey, so a run stops depending on finding a safe spot.
  • Teleport-Free Flight-God Mode adds organisation for teleport points, camera-directed free flight and a God Mode with invulnerability.

Performance and visuals

  • Optimized Tweaks TBOD and UET (Universal Ultimate Engine Tweaks) chase stutter, frametimes and input latency rather than looks. UET replaced the older per-game engine tweak package, which is now hidden on Nexus, so install the universal one.
  • Uncapped Cutscenes and Menu FPS unlocks framerates in menus and cutscenes; version 1.6 also unlocks character and face animation that is otherwise locked to 30 FPS.
  • Natural Image Fix removes the aggressive sharpening the game applies by default.
  • Ultrawide HUD and Cinematics widens the frame to reveal the real scene instead of cropping it, and recentres the HUD at 21:9, 32:9 or any resolution.

Mod Setting Menu is the shared utility worth installing early: it gives Dawnwalker mods a single in-game settings menu and covers all 15 languages the game ships with.

Is modding allowed?

Yes, and it is in writing. Rebel Wolves publishes community content guidelines on the game's own site, and mods are named directly in the list of things players are welcome to make, alongside fan art, cosplay, videos, music covers and fan fiction.

The wording is broad: they are happy for players to make nearly any kind of content, and the list explicitly includes "creating mods for the game" and "creating software that works alongside our game, like overlay software". There is no approval process and nothing to apply for.

That permission comes with four golden rules, and all four apply to mods.

  • Don't use it commercially. No selling mods and nothing behind a paywall, including content reserved for paid subscribers. Videos, music covers and streams monetised through the usual partner and crowdfunding programs are the explicit exception.
  • Stay inside the Dawnwalker universe. Don't move content from the game into other games or products, commercial or not, and don't build separate games or mobile apps on top of it.
  • Label your content as unofficial. Don't imply that a mod is official or endorsed by the studio, and don't add its logos. Community sites and fan pages also have to keep game and studio names out of their domains and mark themselves as unofficial community content.
  • Keep it legal and respectful. Nothing racist, xenophobic, sexist or defamatory, and nothing that steps on another creator's copyright or trademarks.

Who ends up owning a mod

Your original work stays yours. The characters, story, mechanics, music and art stay Rebel Wolves' IP, so a mod built on them is built on their IP - and by publishing it you grant the studio a non-exclusive, perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free licence to reproduce, modify, distribute and build derivative works from it. In practice, they say, that licence mostly exists so they can share community work on their own channels, and they would contact you before doing anything more with it.

Two details worth knowing before you publish: the guidelines do not override the EULA that ships with the game, and any update to them becomes binding 30 days after it is posted.

If you would rather build than install, the on-ramp is public. The UE4SS header dump that the loaders rely on has been turned into DawnwalkerSDK, a compilable Unreal Engine 5.5.4 project with native C++ declarations for the game. That is a community reconstruction rather than an official toolkit - the studio's own documentation stops at permission and the rules above.

Mods and the 30-day timer

The most downloaded Dawnwalker mod exists to answer the game's most divisive design decision. Better Story Timer, at 207.2k downloads, changes how many days the main quest runs for, how many segments a day is split into, and how much time traits, treasures and quests cost - including removing the cost entirely.

That is not a coincidence. PC Gamer's coverage of the mod scene ran under the headline "The Blood of Dawnwalker's mods immediately scrap the time pressure mechanic, which is apparently a dealbreaker for some people". If the clock is the thing stopping you finishing a run, a mod is now a legitimate answer - but it is worth understanding what the timer actually gates before you switch it off. See how the 30-day time limit works.

Do you need UE4SS?

Some mods are a plain file drop and nothing else. The ones that change behaviour while the game is running need a loader, and on Dawnwalker that usually means UE4SS, an Unreal script loader whose stock build does not boot cleanly on this game. Blueprint mods have their own option in Lightweight Mod Loader, a deliberately bare loader with no console commands or extras, and the two can coexist.

1

Check what the mod actually needs

File drops go straight into the game's ~mods folder. Script mods need UE4SS installed first, and blueprint mods need a loader of their own. Skip the loader and the mod's files sit in place and appear to do nothing.

2

Put pak files in the ~mods folder

Pak-based mods go into The Blood of Dawnwalker\Dawnwalker\Content\Paks\~mods inside your game folder. Merge folders when prompted instead of overwriting them, and uninstall by deleting the files you added rather than by clearing the folder.

3

Install the loader into Win64

UE4SS unpacks into Dawnwalker\Binaries\Win64, the folder holding Dawnwalker.exe. The loader's proxy DLL goes beside the executable and the ue4ss folder goes in that same directory.

4

Handle the Engine.ini if a mod ships one

Some loaders drop an Engine.ini into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Dawnwalker\Saved\Config\Windows\. Append their lines to your existing file instead of replacing it, then set the file to read-only, because the game deletes it on exit otherwise. Never edit it while the game is running.

5

Launch and load a save

Load into an existing save before judging the mod. Menus and overlays that need a live player will look broken on the title screen.

Installing mods safely

  • Back up your saves first. The 30-day structure creates states you cannot easily recreate, and progression mods can leave a save depending on them.
  • Install one mod at a time. Unreal titles are sensitive to load order and conflicting overrides, and five mods added at once makes debugging impossible.
  • Read the last-updated date. A patch breaks anything that touches the game's code, so a mod left untouched for weeks is a risk after a hotfix.
  • Verify your files if something breaks. Verifying through Steam is the fastest route back to a clean install.

An open UE4SS overlay can cost you a noticeable amount of performance, so close it when you are not using it. Game updates also break script mods far more often than they break simple file drops: after a patch, expect to re-download anything that hooks into the game's code.

FAQ

Does The Blood of Dawnwalker support mods?▾
On PC, yes. There is no Denuvo, the engine is Unreal Engine 5.5.4, and the Nexus Mods library passed 400 mods in the first two weeks and sits at 585 in October 2026.
Are there mods on console?▾
No. Modding is limited to the PC version on Steam and GOG.
Does the developer allow mods?▾
Yes. Rebel Wolves' community content guidelines list mods among the things players are welcome to make, with four golden rules: keep it non-commercial, stay inside the Dawnwalker universe, label it unofficial, and keep it legal and respectful.
How many Dawnwalker mods are there?▾
585 as of October 2026, having passed 400 in the game's first two weeks. They are split mainly across the Gameplay, Miscellaneous, Visuals and User Interface categories.
Can I remove the 30-day time limit?▾
Yes. Better Story Timer, the most downloaded mod for the game, changes the number of days in the main quest and the segments in a day, and can remove the time cost for traits, treasures and quests.
What is UE4SS and do I need it?▾
UE4SS is an Unreal script loader. Mods that only swap files do not need it, but anything that changes behaviour at runtime does, and the stock build does not boot cleanly on Dawnwalker, so start from a pre-configured release.
Will mods break my save?▾
Mods that change progression or skills can leave a save depending on them. Back up your save folder before you install anything.
Are there cheat mods?▾
The scene covers most of it already, including free flight, a God Mode and an anywhere-save hotkey. The game is single-player only, so external trainers work alongside mods.
Can mods fix the stuttering?▾
That is what Optimized Tweaks TBOD and UET (Universal Ultimate Engine Tweaks) are for. Both target stutter, frametimes and input latency rather than image quality, so they tend to be the first two performance mods people install.
